Religions were created to control people's minds. I do not have a problem with you believing in God, but keep the absurdity to yourself. It is a little disturbing to know that my neighbors believe (and base a great deal of their actions on these beliefs) that there will be a judgement day and that you will be placed in heaven or hell depending on your behavior, that some people judge wrong and right by reading the scriptures, that some people know that there is a divine plan by the Creator and that they know the recipe for me to be saved. It is kinda funny because the whole sin-Jesus-salvation idea fits perfectly the scheme of a scam. You create a problem that didn't exist in the first place, then you offer the solution to the problem you created and you ask people to buy your solution. Well, except Christianity goes a little bit further by saying that the solution has already been implemented (even before you were born or even understood what the problem was about) and now it is payback time. I am no economist, but I would say this is very bad business practice. Some people find it very gratifying that Jesus is like prepaid card that has unlimited credits to clear all your sins, but I am not so convinced about this business model.

"There is nothing to lose." Ok, if you want to waste your life on your ideology that is fine with me, but do not pass laws that make stem cells research funding hard to get, ban people of the same sex from getting married (because it is sinful), discourage condom usage in countries were AIDS kills millions of people, kill in the name of God, drill in your beliefs and practices into the minds of younger generations and instruct them to spread the word, instead of promoting the keep it to ourselves policy.

I should not apologize if I have offended some people because I am not being any more intolerant than they have been. And as for the painting analogy, I dare not to say anything about the nature of the painter, whether he was just or unfair, good or evil because I have never met him in person and I know that people who say 'know' him have not met him either. And if you think that I should not call myself an atheist, I should clarify that I am an atheist about the Christian God. This god is not simply the creator of matter, but it comes also with an extensive list of attributes which are the main points of my concern.

"Criticizing a person's ideas about God and the afterlife is thought to be impolitic in a way that criticizing his ideas about physics or history is not" - Sam Harris

Religion, no logic required to be admitted in the discipline. In fact, we discourage any kind of reasoning.

God created the universe in 7 days. Well, you know those are not really 24-hour days as we know them. It’s figurative. A day for god might be billion of years for us humans.

The bible contains contradictions and anyone with a basic understanding of logic would not take the writings seriously. Well, you are not supposed to read the bible literally. You are supposed to find the hidden meaning behind the writings. It is how you apply the interpretations to your life and make sense of them, what really matters.

DNA sequence analysis shows that organisms evolve, differentiate and specialize. We can construct phylogenetic trees showing which organisms have common ancestors and the estimated distance (time) that they diverged. All evidence indicates that there is a single organism at the root of the tree, namely the common ancestor to all living organisms. Well, that’s intelligent design, someone must have guided all those changes. It is very unlikely that all that happened by chance.

So what’s next? Reality is a simulation in god’s mind? Laws of Physics, quantum mechanics, chemical reactions are just computations in god’s mind? It is like the matrix, except the matrix is god’s mind. How far would you go to distort facts to make them fit your theory? Sorry, but you gotta be more original/creative.
